Eat Ventnor welcomes SUB-OLOGY's new owner Mike Simon to the neighborhood. Mike wants locals to know that he is going to give a 10 percent discount on subs and sandwiches at his 6709 Atlantic Avenue. Mike is the new King of Subs on the Island and actually grew up across the street from SUB-OLOGY. His motto is 'Perfection on Every Roll!'

Mike has many great items on his menu and some unusual ones, too, like his Coconut Cole Slaw. The shop uses Boars Head meats on fresh rolls, with subs including The Boardwalk, the Soaring Eagle and the Downbeach. SUB-OLOGY also has homemade soups, perfect for the winter months ahead.

The band Either Way performed on Saturday night for the crowd at BYO GRILLE. Performing a variety of new and classic rock songs, lead singer Sarah Holt brought her unique style to songs like Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and Wolfmother's Woman. One of the most well received songs was Poker Face by Lady Gaga. The band had them dancing in the aisles, including the wait staff. Stay tuned for more live shows at the BYO GRILLE.

Stop in an say HEY to Bianca, the new owner of Capri Pizza, located at 115 North Dorset Avenue in Ventnor Heights. You can order a large cheese pizza for only $8 before 4PM from Monday to Thursday.

The establishment is under new management and Bianca is going to come up with some exciting promotions and is happy to work with local charities and fundraisers to help them succeed.

So if you have had enough leftover turkey and want to try something new, visit Capri Pizza, now under new management. Bianca also has a dynamite cheese steak, another one of the most popular items on the menu.

We need your reviews! We are hoping to post positive input on the many restaurants in Ventnor so tell us what you like. Please do not send negative reviews – take them up with the owners or leave your comments on other web sites. There is something to like about every establishment in the city, as long as people are looking for it.

Here is our first review and THANKS to Marc and Max for their post.

During the summer our friend told us about this great little place called the Euro Cafe, at New Haven and Ventnor. Based on their recommendation, we tried it. Since the first time we walked in and were greeted with a very warm smile from the owner Sarah, we have not gone anywhere else for breakfast.

Their bagel and lox is great and the best deal I have ever found anywhere (other than my parents house). Max found the carrot cake to beso good that she even pays for both of us to dine, as long as we go to Euro.

We have since met Santo, and their son Brian and these are great people, with a great product. But the best part is they make you feel really welcomed.

All of our friends that we have taken there, loved it and shared with their friends. I might start book reservations for the coming season. It is really worth the visit.

Rumor has it that the new BYO GRILLE at 5200 Ventnor Ave. in the Ventnor, NJ - the Heart of Downbeach - is planning a soft launch opening this weekend, November 12 and 13. WOW! The new restaurant is the perfect location to watch the game, enjoy some great food and BYO spirits. Give it a try!

Eat Ventnor just got a look at the BYO GRILLE menu! You will find some great grilled entrees including a 10 oz. Ribeye ($19.99), Baby Back Ribs ($14.99) and the BYO Burger ($8.49), an 8 oz. Angus beef burger with your choice of toppings like sauteed mushrooms and Monterey Jack cheese.

You will also be able to enjoy some Chicken Wings (10 for $8.49 and 20 for $16.99) and the Eat Ventnor Team is ready for some Buffalo Style. And we'll also have an order of Cheese Fries ($4.25), Onion Rings ($4.99) and some Asian Spring Rolls ($7.49).

Who's THE MAN?!

As part of the Eat Ventnor initiative, we invite you to visit another blog that's fresh and new. It's written by a food afficianado and fine fellow, Mr. Bob Hires, who many affectionately refer to as "The Big Bopper." While he once spent summers by the sea in Long Beach Island, he now resides in beautiful Cherry Hill where he is becoming know as "The Man Who Ate South Jersey."

While Bob does write a lot about cooking, he has been known to review the occassional restaurant and we hope he finds the time to join us as we Eat Ventnor. Only time will tell, but you can keep up with The Man when you visit his new blog.

Mr. Hires is also an artist and a recent 'Cool Thing of the Week' post showed off his sketchbook with drawings from the local Wegmans. Bob has been an illustrator for many years and we hope he will continue to document his food travels.

And so the Eat Ventnor Team extends an open invitation to The Man Who Ate South Jersey and we hope to see him soon! Dinner is on us!

Open Mic Night at Malelani Cafe

We hope you had a chance to enjoy all the fun of attending a musical performance at the Malelani Cafe at 5205 Atlantic Avenue in the North Beach section of Ventnor. The Malelani Cafe has become the premiere spot in Ventnor for live entertainment and this summer was a showcase of local talent. In addition to a regular schedule of live acts on Wednesday and Friday nights, the Cafe also hosted an Open Mic Night on Saturday.

There were many eclectic acts, jazz singers, guitar players and story tellers throughout the summer, and Open Mic Night will continue into the winter along with other special musical performances. We will keep you posted on upcoming events and remember that everyone is invited to participate. If you know of a talented musician who would like to showcase their abilities, the Malelani Cafe is the perfect venue.

Artists are also invited to show their work in the Cafe and many shows took place over the summer. Original art will continue to be on display, so stop in for coffee and culture at the unique and delicious Malelani Cafe.

Be sure to order from Dimitri's Corner and don't forget the Tiramisu. You can also count on them for catering. Recently, the Ventnor Margate Lions Club was treated to an Oktoberfest Dinner that was a delight. Stop in to say HELLO to George and Maxi, and see what the special of the day is. They have recently added Brisket to the menu and always have great soups.

Wow! The restaurants in Ventnor were packed this past summer and the sidewalk traffic was brisk. Many Ventnor restaurants really took advantage of outdoor seating, while others did a ton of delivery. But no matter what the traffic, palates were pleased and some great tastes were discovered in the Heart of Downbeach.

There were some new restaurants on the block, and the street scene continues to change as winter approaches. And while many Ventnor establishments will take this time of year to slow down a bit, cut back their hours and hibernate, others plan to continue cranking out culinary delights.

This blog and the eatventnor.com web site is going to report on the restaurant scene and give a voice to the many talented cooks, chefs, bakers and food service specialists who keep us fed in Ventnor. Whether you like pizza or lobster tail - or lobster tail on your pizza - you will find information that you can use when you are planning an evening out, an intimate dinner for two, a family-style event, or just a quick bite to eat.
